Prof. Teh invited my whole studio class over to his house today. I am always interested to see where other designer’s live, and to see their individual “style”. He is a collector. He is very interested in a diverse array of cultures and his home defiantly exhibits this. He loves fabrics, paintings, music, and back scratchers. He has an original Red, Blue Chair.
He said that designers should be good cooks, and musicans, and singers….. That designer’s have to appreciate the finer things in life. The subtly and the meaning behind/motivating the production of these beautiful “things” (songs, art, etc) is ours to understand and enjoy. To appreciate. To distill, and absorb, and revel in. I am excited about this idea, like subconsciously I had known it all along. I love to get below the surface of things…
Separate note. Atlas Shrugged. The themes in this book strike me as very applicable to the world product design. Those who make, and those who take. But it is more positive than just that, more hopeful. Ya dig?
