~ So I recently participated in a robot study. It was for a Ph. D student’s research on robot design guidelines. I was really cool, mayo and I did it together and we were basically playing the role of design consultants.
~ We got to work with a cs graduate student who specializes in robot navigation software design. He was able to tell us what goes where and why. It was the most fun I have ever had working across disciplines.
~ Robot design is sort of what I imagine car design is like. You have certain components that have a fixed size and placement, but the rest is a designer’s playground. It was actually the most unrestricted design challenge I have ever been given.
Of course it is super hard to get precedents like wall-e, and bender out of your head….
